"Zum zweiten Mal binnen vier Jahren - und nun zum Gedenken an den 24. Mai 1949, den Tag, an dem vor 40 Jahren das Grundgesetz in Kraft trat - hat Bundespräsident Richard von Weizsäcker eine Rede gehalten, die über den Tag hinaus wirken und dem Selbstverständnis der Deutschen differenzierte Wegweisung geben wird.

Wie seine Rede am 08. Mai 1985 ist auch die große Würdigung, die der Bundespräsident dem Leben der Deutschen mit dem Grundgesetz gewidmet hat, ein politisch-historisches Dokument von hohem Rang. Das hat die deutschen Philips Unternehmen bewogen, nun auch eine Langspielplatte der Rede vom 24. Mai 1989 zu publizieren.

Wir widmen diese Edition der Jugend, die ihre Zukunft mit dem Wissen um die Vergangenheit gestalten will.
